Hum Made Shadows

Croatian Grad Hum is officially the smallest town in the world, as registered by the Guinness Book of Records. As of 2021, only 23 citizens live here including the local Gradonačelnik (town head). This position is more of a headache, as most of the local inhabitants are actually pensioners and the town itself contemplates three streets inside a castle with a size of a modern city supermarket. That’s why sarcastic locals call the town head “a fool for a year”. Hum is however well worth visiting. It is a cosy little place surrounded by the beautiful valley where Istrians hunt for truffels and grow grapes to produce their wonderful grape rakija called Biska. It is also a nice place to take photos, as all buildings in the castle stand close to each other and produce intricate shadows during a bright summer day
